John Galt Presents: The Banana Girl

Stickman wrote an opening piece about his workplace a few weeks back. The article was Working With The Thais.

Workplace banter can get quite risqué in Thailand and you don't have any of the issues of sexual harassment that seem to be a real concern in the West these days. I never cease to be amazed at some of the stuff that is talked about. A petite, innocent female Thai employee eating a banana for breakfast would think nothing about saying “Oooh, it is big, isn’t it” in English and then giggling to herself. A light atmosphere is never a bad thing.

I'm assuming what he wrote was true and that he wasn't fabricating material to fill his column. My curiosity was piqued by the following statement concerning the "petite innocent female" in the following paragraph in Stick's column.

So Stickman, who is the banana girl? Can I assume this is a real incident? Or it is close to real? You wouldn't be just making these statements about something that really wouldn't happen, would you?

I assume you did have someone in mind when the inspiration came to you about the banana? Surely this "girl" been on the end of risqué conversations before or you wouldn't have even thought of mentioning of it.

Special Update (Nov 5th): Stickman took down the web page he wrote about his workplace. I expected this possibility so the Great Galt copied that page ahead of schedule. You may find it interesting to note that Stickman did this within 12 hours of the posting this article. Wait a minute - I thought Stickman didn't acknowledge this site? I thought he said it had nothing to do with him? Stick -- when you try to hide, you admit your guilt in wrong doing. Can't you make really good money in Thailand without doing questionable and illegal things?

I just checked again looks like Stick took the his entire site down. I think Stick calls that action "Doing a Runner" That notice on the first page is signed "Stickman Bangkok Team". Who are the members of that team? What's wrong Stick, don't want to be alone on this? I thought your site was just "one man's ranting and ravings"?

I'm sure Stickman will be back at some point after he removes all the stuff on there about his Thai work place. He can't afford to loose this large revenue stream. Just how large? The Galt might be telling you next week.

The following pictures are the nicer younger looking girls that Stickman works with at the English school. I pulled these off the web. (I want to thank one of my readers for supplying the web address). I would have to guess that one of these is the true banana girl. Ok Sticky, which one of these babes have you been writing about?

Stickman (Paul Owen) wrote an interesting article about this about this woman. Take a look at this archive copy of Stickman's Galt's Copy of Teaching in Bangkok, Never a Dull Moment. Look for the subsection called "Choose the Short Kids" or enjoy the subsection called "The Hypocritical Boss". There is fun reading for the whole family there.

The original article never contained specifics about Stickman's work place. I came back here just after the www.twofatfarangs.com interview on Jan 15th 2007. If you read that article you'll see that I talk about coming back here to reinsert the pictures that had been removed. Prior to that point only the words "Stick at EPTS" had been published here . After Jan 15th, I went ahead and printed the full name of the school because by this time Stickman has released my name and business information at MangoSauce.com.

Question 4: What is the most "farang" thing your husband does that gets on your last nerves and you just want to beat the hell out of him for doing it?

Mrs. Stick says: I don't like the way farangs worship the truth. Farangs always want to know every last detail of what has happened, when it happened, why it happened etc. I can't understand this. The way that some people always insist on knowing the truth can be damaging, and can hurt people's feelings, both when people keep asking question after question, and then when they eventually find something out, and then use it against that person.

People only dig in for multiple answers when they suspect they have been lied to. When there is a high level of trust and everything seems to be in order, probing with heavy questioning does not occur.

It seems that you, Mrs. Stick, were asking quite a number of questions to Mr. Stick when you thought he was cheating on you with another girl. Either Stick was telling the truth OR he conjured up and greatest lie in history.

What do you care? You don't worship the truth. You should have just accepted what he had said without question knowing that in his mind he would would tell you what you needed to hear. He doesn't want to hurt your feelings you know.

What were you going to do with that truth anyhow if you had really caught him cheating? Were you going to use that information to hurt Stickman? As a Thai female, I think we both know the hard cold stone truth of that answer.

I think I can even take this one step further. You made efforts to find a farang on-line and eventually marring Stick because you wanted to have the leverage of his honesty against him - didn't you? I think I see through you now Mrs. Stick. I think this is all pretty logical. I don't feel that westerners think about using truth "against people". Those are not western words. We don't think that way normally. We have instincts to trust people, this is why the westerner falls victim to the girls in Thailand so often. I tell guys constantly to turn off the "trust button" upon entry to this country. This is a "prove it to me first" kind of place.

On several occasions Stick has said that he is very fond of photography. He has quite a decent collection of photos on hand in his gallery. Why don't we see more photos in his weekly columns when he travels around to these half dozen places he visits each week?

What's the harm in that? If he is worried about the cost in Internet band-width, he can keep the pictures small.

I make it a point to take pictures almost everywhere I go so you can see the results first hand. I think it's a very valuable part of a web site.

Its funny about how Mrs. Stick seems to be passive and unsure about farang/Thai relationships. In the most extreme cases where a farlang is getting the shaft she'll say -- "that's not right". But in most responses where the farang is on the bottom end of a deal with a girl and her family, Mrs. Stick's advice is usually non-committal and passive. She'll not ever tell a farang how to stand up for their rights in a relationship. (perhaps she doesn't want to give Mr. Stick any ideas for future marital disagreements)

But, if you ask Mrs. Stick about how much money is appropriate to give to the girl or the family and she'll hit that number right on the nose with absolutely no reservations. That is not an area she is timid about.

This observation speaks to the issue of Thais being fairly prejudice. They commonly don't seek a fair deal for both parties regardless of who they are. Between farang and Thai, they tend to be prejudicial against the farang in matters of money. This is all the more reason to keep yourself on guard when you are over here.

I sometimes have to laugh when I read the Stick. In this following paragraph he qualified the changing of the stamp in a passport as highly illegal. I believe Stick also has classifications of "moderately illegal" and "kind of illegal" as well.

Sometimes I get some odd emails. One this week suggested various means of changing the stamps in their passport so as to extend their visa. Whatever you do, DON'T DO THIS! It is highly illegal and you could get in all sorts of trouble.

I'm thinking about making next week's column called "Stickman vs Sony". You know who the winner of that bout would be don't you? The men in brown of course. Stick, would that little incident you had with Sony be classified as the highly or moderately illegal?

If there is anyone out there with some insight to Stickman's little run-in with Sony a few years back, can you drop me a line and tell me a little more about it. I'd like to hear from a few sources before I elaborate on that story in one of my future columns.

Last week I suggested that we might put up a web site in Thai and let all the bar girls go there and see the faces of the guys who are investigating them. I asked you to send in a vote on that matter. If you agreed with the idea, Thumbs Up, if you disagreed, Thumbs Down. I was a bit surprised by the response. I expected quite a number of Thumbs Down.

Is the bar girl investigation business perhaps the scam on top of the scam? Just how far will people go when their heart strings are pulled?

I am a big believer is paying as you go. Or, if you send money, expect that she is still working.

We had a very unusual bump in traffic this week. Seems that an Asian porn site had a link up to one of my pages temporarily. I suspect they were looking at a photo of a one of the former owners/founding partners of DexterHorn.com. His picture was on that page. By the way, I just saw this guy in Pattaya this past week and told him about the unusual curiosity. He seemed a bit surprised at the fuss.

The numbers are solidly up this week. Just a month ago I was averaging only 200 visitors a day. I'm double that now. Still, this just a very small drop in the bucket. I'm not even concerned about it because this site is for my personal pleasure more than anything else.

The boys who work with Stick at EPTS must but be laughing a giggling about the little digs I made at Stick each week. I can only say that I haven't heard from Stickman myself.

Does stickman have some fame? Does the former Thai English teacher John Karr have some fame? Hell, John Karr is even listed in Wikipedia. Na, I don't think I want that kind of fame.

If you haven't surmised yet, the English Teacher (no matter how honorable it may be) is the lowly foreign worker. In the Thai landscape, you're the whore of the farang work place. That sounds drastic but, I'm sorry to say, its true. They will use you and abuse you.

The Thai educational system will tolerate a lower level qualified teacher so they can save money and stretch out their resources. Never mind that some of these low-ethical individuals are teaching the future leaders of Thailand. That just doesn't count.

Not every farang in that profession is a bad apple, but quite a few are. Most don't belong in their positions and would never be allow to teach abroad.

This is why Stickman is working so hard to build up his web business. My only gripe is that he doesn't really protect his readers. He selectively endorses businesses that are very questionable (for the money ad revenues of course). He also milks money from guys who want to verify that bar girls are working or not.

Please do read his site. There is a lot of good information there. Just don't send him any money. Don't buy services from his sponsors unless you have taken some time to check them out for yourself.

Update (Nov 6th) When I wrote this web page a week ago, I wasn't really sure I had the right information, but Stick's web site is down, and evidently this confirms the information. I have also been alerted that Stick and associates are issuing threats in several directions in search of me, The Galt. Stickman did email me but refused further communication when I declined to speak with him on the phone (I will accept email from him). Stick is reacting like a hoodlum on the run. I must say I'm a bit surprised at what appears to be a high anger level. I've been on my path at this site for 10 weeks. During this entire time he has steadily been in denial. He has told his readers that my site had nothing to do with him. Surely he must of known at some point I would keep creeping closer to truth of his activities. The hard truth is, I'm actually holding back. There is a lot more to tell, but I have been reserve -- and more information is coming in. It's a real shame. The old Stickman seemed like a good guy. The new Stickman with commercial power and large numbers of readers acts more like a spoiled child and a gangster.
