Bargirls; The Art of the Deal; Part 3
Picking up from last week, I dropped Dolly off at Boeches and left there about 9:30. I immediately walked to the beer bar that I had been to just a day or two earlier.
If you remember, I wrote here about seeing a very cute girl who had given me a some good eye contact. However, when I had come the following day to actually talk to her, a younger German boy had just gotten there before me and bar fined her.
Well as luck would have i
t,
she was back at that bar and available. I walked up and she noticed me
right away, and had a big smile on her face that I had come back. I was
pleased to see her too. She is one of the girls in the photo on the
right. Can you guess which one without looking down to the following
pictures? What is my "Spec"? (as they commonly say in Thailand).
I generally like thin girls. Sometimes they may be medium chested and other times just a proportionate body is fine. But
one thing is for sure, they always have a cute face and a nice smile.
Figured out who I bar fined yet?
We are going to call this girl "Jin". That is not her real name. But, I'm showing you her picture and I'm going to tell you a few things about her. I will not be writing about any personal sexual details because I have identified her by face.
Jin told me where she was from and I instantly knew this place. I had been to her area of the country before. It's just a simple Issan city. She said that she had only been working in Pattaya for about 3 weeks. I believed her. In fact the young guy that I had seen her with had come to Thailand with his mother for a holiday and he bar fined her about 5 or 6 days in a row and evidently this was her first farang customer. I was (going to be) her second.
One of the very first things that I noticed - I mean I noticed this immediately.... When I pulled up to the bar, I sensed an air uneasiness around me. Seemed like all her girl friends and were just kind of leery of me. I was fairly sure what was on their minds so -- when in doubt -- rule number one -- bring money. I immediately pulled about 50 baht bills for everybody. Even for grumpy mamasan behind the bar. I told them I was buying their next meal. That immediately seemed help break the ice and put everyone at ease. By the way, rule number two is -- "bring money" and of course let's not forget rule number three; "when in doubt, don't forget rule number one and rule number two".

And of course at this point everyone got chatty and they we asking all the normal questions, and I gave all the basic answers and somehow, I fell into a conversation with the girl in black about the word in Thai for "pussy". I had been using the word "he" and she gave me a short lesson saying that it is much better to use the word "hoy". She said "he" as very crude and less acceptable and that "hoy" was a bit softer and more appropriate for normal conversation. Hum... so I thanked her for that suggestion. It's never a bad time to pickup more of the language. I frequently make suggestions to them too about certainly English phrases as well.
I ordered a coke. I think I bought one for Jin as well and we sat at the bar together. During our conversation, she pulled out her telephone and asked me to translate an SMS message. Evidently her German friend had made it back home to Germany and he sent her a message in English several hours eariler that day. I translated the best I could over to Thai. Is was just the basic "I'm home and I miss you" message. Nothing very serious. Jin and I talked for about 30 or 45 minutes before I bar fined her and we left the bar.
I normally don't waste a lot of time at a bar -- I never do. I'm in there and I'm out of there with girl in tow. Bar owners probably don't like me too well because I'm not a heavy drinker and when I'm at a bar I'm typically on a mission to take a girl.
So, I asked her if she would like to go to Tony's disco with me that night. She has not been there before. So, we made our way to Tony's. This was just a way to warm up the night and continue getting to know each other and seeing a few sights. She had not seen a lot of places so this was a new experience for her.
Tony's is very nice place, however, that said, it's a very expensive place too. She ordered a wine cooler called Spy Red and I ordered a mixed drink - a White Russian. The check came to 530 baht. It was no shock to me because I had clearly seen the prices before hand. But, my drink at 350 baht -- that is about $10. That is a serious piece of change. That is a small number for a New Yorker, but generally, that's a heavy price for Thailand and the glass was not that large. To give you some idea, I buy the imported Kahlua and an entire bottle of that is 750 baht. I what I had was maybe a half ounce with some vodka, milk and ice in a short glass. So, the mark up was pretty damn high. But, I have to say the atmosphere was great. The show they put on is first class. I like the environment. It's about a clean as it gets inside a night club. Five years ago, the place was jammed with rowdy people and prices where lower, and it was more dirty in there. On this day it was about 1/2 full and the clientele was more upscale.
We had 2 rounds of drinks -- exactly the same.... Jin was still a bit stand off-ish from me at this point and a funny thing happened. She got another SMS message right in front of me. And she pulled her phone out of her purse and looked at it and smiled and seemed very happy to receive it. The guy from Germany has just sent her another message, and I read it for her again, and it was just a simple thinking of you/missing you type message but this where it gets strange. I thought this might interfere with her warming up to me. I thought this might remind her of this younger German stud and make me look like a less than an equally interesting alternative -- but as it turned out, that message made her feel good and somehow that loosened her up. It seemed like when she slipped that phone back in her purse, she had "put him away" or somehow resolved something and made her move forward with me. I've never quite seen this before. I can't explain it any better than this, but she immediately got more cozy with me. All I know is that, it was a good thing and this was the last message that ever came through from him.
I think we were in Tony's for about an hour. It was somewhere around 11 or 12 when we left there. We didn't stay out late. We headed back to the room and as I expected, all went well there. It was very nice exchange. We felt comfortable with each other. She slept over the entire night and left the next morning and I agreed to take her again on the next day and bar-fine her again. I'm sure that I gave her 1.5k baht that morning. She hardly took notice of the amount. As is customary, she thanked me.
The second day I picked her from the bar again
in the early evening. Our plan was to see a
movie. Spiderman 3 had just come out and I really wanted to see that.
We went over the Royal Garden Plaza to check out movie times. It
turned out that we had about 90 minutes to spare before the next showing.
So purchased the movie tickets and decided to kill some time.
Every girl appreciates a little light shopping. Jin was already acting conservative with my generosity from the previous night. I like that in a girl. So, I don't mind spending money when I know that girl is going to make the most of it and really appreciate it.
So, to help pass a little time we went shipping inside the plaza. Girls love nice underwear. Jin picked out a new bra for herself. I think it was about 500 baht ($15).
After that, we wondered up to Ripley's Haunted
Adventure. She had not gone through this before and neither had I.
It is a walk through adventure that is styled after a normal haunted house.
There are sets inside of creepy things
and
there are some live people inside who will help make the experience a little
more frightful. What they do is put small groups of 10 or
12 people together. Then the entire group is given about 10 feet
of heavy rope to hold so when they walk through, they will all stay together
on the rope. Some portions of the adventure are completely dark
and you must hold out your hand to find your way through. There is no
other way to figure out where to go. The walls are padded an
d
and rooms are not overly large so you can make your way.
I was at the front of the line. This was a great place. I had a blast. The whole thing felt like a joke to me. When the automatic sensors detected us and a creepy figure popped up scaring the group -- I laughed my ass off. It seemed like the more they screamed and harder I laughed. I really had a good time with it.
Keep in mind that Jin was right next to me and she is shaking and jumping at each turn. This would definitely be a good way to help get a girl warmed up to you if you need her to cut loose a little bit. The whole experience lasted about 15 minutes and I think the cost was 380 baht for each of us.
As you can see, Jin is holding her purchase from the store we visited earlier.
The picture below was taken while waiting for the movie to begin. This shot is not very steady but look at that smile. This is one happy person.
We
saw the movie and I think we went out to eat after that. She stayed
with me on this second night. I was considering taking her for a
third day but my sleep pattern was off and I felt like I was dragging.
So, I went by her bar on the third day and told her that I would not be
taking her. I know she was disappointed. As I walked
away I heard her telling her friends at the bar "He doesn't like me".
I kind of felt sad about that statement but I didn't take it wrongly.
See, most of these girls would rather not be working in Pattaya. They
have lives back with their families. So, they really want to move
forward and find a better life and I can almost tell you for a fact that Jin
would be very happy to find a longer term partner and leave Pattaya and
start a new life. Had I felt really been motivated to take this to the
next level, I think she would have considered it. I think Jin is only
21 years old.
We hear many stories about girls who's sole focus is to rip-off unsuspecting farangs, but its also nice to see girls like Jim who are absolutely not interested in hurting anybody. You can find these girls. They are many and they are all over Thailand. And you can meet them if you take your time and look around. Of course in Pattaya, this is a bit different as these girls are working at the local bars, so you really can't miss them. And if they are working at a local bar, part of the "deal" is they will most certainly to enjoy some quality personal time with you.
On this trip, I enjoyed the company of one more female, I'll tell you about her in the next column. (sorry this is running so long-- and to think, this was only about 4 or 5 days worth of activity.)
The Galt May Be The Trend Setter....
One of the paragraphs in this week's Stick Mark II column says:
|
At least one Bangkok law firm is telling their clients that when applying for a new visa the Western employee must submit photographs of ALL members of the organization, and not only that, the photos must be taken at their place of work - in the actual place where they work, i.e. behind a desk or working a machine, or whatever. The problem is that one fellow who is faced with this requirement works in a firm that employs 800 staff! Any cheap photographers out there?! |
I may be the one who is to blame for starting
this trend. A couple of years ago (May 2005), when I first
applied for my one Visa, the approval process was done entirely in Bangkok
and not anywhere close to my location here up country Thailand.
I was being rejected on some minor technical issues that in my m
ind
seemed rather irrelevant. One issue was they wanted me to register the
company for VAT taxes even though I had told that I am was not required at
that time because the companies annual gross income did not exceed 1.7 million bath. I
think they questioned a few other things as well (they are very good at
throwing dirt up in the air for very thin reasons).
I had to think outside the box and get a jump ahead of the Thais on this to get this Visa approved. I knew that I needed something big to push this over with them.
I figured they were just distrustful of possibility false paperwork and didn't believe that I would actually come to some po-dunk out of the way place to start a real business. (I had the same problems with local labor minister chief with my work permit the previous year before this).
So, I had a very large banner made for the front of my building. And I hung that banner. And I made 8 x 10 photos of my building and group shots of my employees and some pictures of the work being done, and had them sent in with my paperwork. Nothing else was changed in my paperwork to my recollection. I wanted them to see the faces of the people who they were helping to work. I wanted them to have a hard time saying no to me. If I could not bring them to the building, I was going to take the building to them. Well, it worked and at that point my application was approved.
They never asked for photos before and to my knowledge that is still not a requirement on the list, but I still send them a group shot of me and my employees when I reapply for that Visa every year.
So, if this has become a way to "seal the deal" with immigration, then it is possible that I started this trend a few years back.
Oh, for those of you wondering about the sign..... Its says "Now Hiring" in Thai. We used it for about 1 week and had never put it up again. Once you have a good reputation in your area, people come to you looking for work and we have always had a semi-steady pool of talent coming to us from from this point. Notice one thing -- I wasn't cheap on the sign. It's about 4 feet tall and extends approximately 45 feet. NO ONE else makes a sign like this unless they are very serious. I don't know how much this helped, but I believe that if this sign was small, that immigration and others would have been distrustful of it. So, sometimes you have to go a little over-board to make absolutely sure the job gets done. In this case, I certainly wanted to get the Visa approved but, we also were hiring a for a couple of positions, and we also wanted a lot of good applicants as well.
By the way, I waited a long time to officially apply for the 1 year Visa. I made trips every 90 days to get repeated Non-B Visas in Laos. This was before they starting tightening up the regulations. So, my application for the one year Visa was long over-due. I accumulated several years worth of 90 day Visas prior to my one year approval.
Stickman "I've Changed"
For this following section to make sense, you will need to read the newest StickmanBangkok.com weekly column.
Yes, Is he is now a 2 headed hydra? A Galt Reader (who are generally more keen than Stickman readers), emailed me with this hypothesis:
| Hi. Judging by Stickman's style of writing of
late, I think Mark Holt is writing it in turns with Paul Owen, that
would account for the lack of stick-isms you have noted. I bet that is
why it is call stick-mark-II , stick is Owen, mark is Mark Holt and
the II meaning 2 people writing the weekly. just my view. Yes your right about MangoSquash being slow to post, I bet there's something wrong there, maybe he's in some personal trouble or he's just tired of his website. |
You may be right about the Owen/Holt (Stick/Marc) concept. Paul and Marc are pretty good friends and Stick trusts him. Marc is also very prolific and prone to fiction - which doesn't necessarily disagree with some of what Stickman has published in the past.
Is this Stick / Mark II ?

Stickman "I've Really Changed"
Stickman evidently has quite a bit of his life rapped up on how much money he makes. The first five paragraphs of his article is all about money.
He stated that he believed that some of the well dressed x-pats are making 400 and 500k baht. That equates to 11 to 14 thousand dollars per month. I thinks those are insane numbers that are just pie in the sky. Certainly some may make this kind of money, but very few even in the US or the west make a salary like this (non-company owners).
So, its a wonder that Stick doesn't feel good about his financial income if he's trying to reach for numbers like these. I suppose it's easy to feel down.
I, the Galt, am an Engineer and I know what kind of figures they make in the US. A damn good Engineer working for a medium sized company can pull in 120k dollars a year. That is a base figure of 10 thousand dollars a month. That sounds really great until you consider the high cost of living, taxes, and the like.
Here you can afford to make a lot less and still enjoy a very high standard of living. Low expenses means you can save more of your money and get it working for you.
If you live right, you can do quite well on a much smaller income. If you're going to dream about western money, then you might very well just be giving yourself a reason to be unhappy.
Stickman talks about having "Class"
Stickman claims to have class. Is this because he wears a shirt and tie everyday to work? Is this because he always pays the check when he is the big bread winner in a crowd? Is this because he never raises his voice? Is this because he would never consider indulging in PDA (public display of affection)?
Here is an interesting quote from his column this week:
| I get perturbed when people complain to me or about me and unless criticism is made really subtly, constructively and is truly justified, it is not always taken on board, another classic Thai trait. I respond badly to threats, and when threatened I immediately go into "how can I get this fxxxxr back mode", again, just like many Thais. |
What ever happened to the idea of just approaching someone out in the open and expressing yourself and airing out a disagreement? If someone is threatening you, why not get it out in the open to get some understanding on it? Why should someone seek retribution in a "get that fxxxxr back mode"? It sound like a secret revenge mode. This is NOT having class.
Interesting thing, Stickman didn't reflect any whoremonger traits in his column -- strange -- why not? No change in the area? He, he, -- I'm sure we'll start hearing rumors about the "old" Stickman as some point.
Why Comment About a Movie??
I admit, I'm slow this week, but why in the hell is Stick/Mark making a comment about a movie?
This was funny to me because last week I made a reference to a dish called Soom Taam Goog" and they must of read my column and decided to air out their disappointment about the fact a movie that didn't have subtitling. Is there really any value to this paragraph?
|
"Tom Yum Goong" is a Thai made film that was released a couple of years back, although much of it was filmed in Sydney, Australia. I never saw it until it ran on UBC recently and enjoyed it. Sure, it was cheesy and the story was a bit silly but the fight scenes were really well done - think Jackie Chan style. Throughout the movie there are three languages spoken - English, Thai and Chinese. Damned UBC did not bother to put any subtitles in the movie so unless you speak all three languages well, there were lengthy scenes where you didn't have a clue what was going on! OK, many are comfortable in both Thai and English but when it comes to Mandarin or was it Cantonese (?), I had no idea what was going on. I guess UBC, or True Visions as they are now called, do not read this column, as this is not the first time this issue has been bitched about. |
A Stick/Mark Error?
|
A reminder that you really should not think of putting naughty video or pictures of locals online. I am still surprised at the number of guys who not only put naughty photos up online, but put themselves in the pictures! On one hand these guys get full marks for bravery, but on the other hand, I don't think any good can come of it at all. |
Take a look at that link and see how much it has to do with their topic. Not much. There is a pretty big difference between abuse/blackmail/extortion and posting personally taken nude photos on the web.
I would think that you'd be wise to have permission for posting explicit photos for sure. And I would keep the photos more on the artistic side, rather than the pornographic side and I would also recommend that you hide her/your identity.
Is The Stickman/Mark Racist?
A reader contacted me this week about a piece that appeared in Stick/Mark II column last week that said:
| "Black men not to the
Japanese women's taste?
I've spent a lot of time in many different Asian countries, and Asian women, on the whole, just aren't interested in black men. With the exception of prostitutes (or occasionally poorer women with a wealthy African American boyfriend) it is rare to see Asian women with black men. Even many prostitutes choose not to go with them. This is also true with Indian men. Just because one Japanese starlet wrote a book doesn't mean large numbers of Japanese women desire black guys. Living in Japan for two years, I could count the number of Japanese women with black guys on one hand. |
A reader's comment came to me with the title "Is Stickman Racist?":
| This is the third time I have caught him allowing to
blacks to get bashed on his website. The racism has no place and most
of it is wrote by Anglo-Saxon expats who don't have a clue. This (paragraph above) is so untrue. Man I have been to Philippines, Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand and I lived in Japan, and in all these countries I have seen black guys with the local woman no more then in Japan. The generalizations and the racism is ridiculous. |
I wrote to him: "They are claiming this is just email that is sent in -- Hum.... what is more important... Allowing people to have the freedom to say whatever they like, or blocking some of the "free speech" in the prevention of fostering possible negative ideas that are based on racism? Thanks for the input. It's worth thinking about."
Personally, I don't think Paul Owen is racist.
He may look down on the poorer Thais in his column but my guess is that he
is not overtly racist. Now, Marc Holt, I would guess
he would be racist. That is just my gut instinct based on
reading his on-line publications. But, hey, I could be wrong. Marc
blurs the lines between fact and fiction quite a bit, so it would hard to
definitively know his true position based on his writing.
(perhaps this is his way of hiding who he is yet having his say in the
"spirit of fun" as it were - you follow that?)
I think Stickman is sloppy about publishing just anything to get this columns up every week. Perhaps he should have considered the counter view to this slightly negative comment that could be taken as racist.
Here is an interesting fellow that I met here in Thailand. His name is Fred Ho. Fred is Afro Asian (Chinese I believe). He is quite an accomplished musician, composer, and producer of music. He also founded the Afro Asian Music Ensemble. He is from NY and I met him here in Thailand on holiday about 2 years ago now. He is quite an interesting guy. We had some interesting conversations about scuba diving and the ladies. If you run a search of "Fred Ho" his search hits come up in the thousands.
Oh, one more thing..... You're going smile when I tell you this. I know one particular beer bar girl who when I see her, always asks me - "Keith, did any of your black friends coming for a visit? I like black men", she says. So, people there are some Thai females who are interested in other races and actually prefer them. (I also met a girl who only goes with Chinese men - go figure)
I also know the daughters of a mixed race couple here in town. The mother is Thai and the father is from India. She and her sister are nice people both of whom I have known for years.
So, I would believe that there is a fair about of inter-racial relationships in Thailand and around Asia and I don't sense that the community here is negatively judgmental of it. I think Asian are less judgmental about race than those who we would consider "white folk" back home.
The original comment was "as a whole" the Asian female doesn't like black men. As a whole, the statement may be accurate about I don't think its about about race. It may just be a normal preference. For instance, personally I don't like blondes with white skin right now. I haven't for many years, but it has nothing to do with fact that they may be German or Swedish.
Miss Udons are in Plentiful in Africa??
Here is a comment from another reader which I thought was interesting:
| Hi Keith
Your ''Stickman Investigation '' is getting more and more interesting.I always felt sorry for the guys who pick up some bar girl during their 2 - 3 weeks holiday and take her to their Faranglands and in most of the cases, they face surprise of their lifetime, that's almost guaranteed! I thought that only the ex pats, living in Thailand and knowing the language and Thai culture+ all the potential and real traps (they can end up in eventually) ,can have a chance to find some decent Thai Girl.It seems to me, that I am wrong. Although I could see some writing on the wall when Stick started to publish his ''Miss Udon '' Your piece fully explains. It would be really nice to hear from ex Mrs.Stick.I am really amazed that Stick, who has been lecturing his readership world wide about Thai - Farang relationship burns his fingers the same way like all those ass holes visiting Thailand for a holiday ( I did have also my fair share of experience, fortunately no damage done )Yes as explained on your site, Stick has very good reasons to have very large readership. It also took me a while before I figured out, that although he regularly complains about his underpaid job, he still stays in Thailand, although even his ,then wife, could not believe what keeps him there, after their visit of N.Z.But, what I want to say, I really could not believe, when his Mrs, Stick ( or Stickman himself )started to answer the questions of bloody wankers from around the world who considered them big relationship'' gurus '' Well, it seems to me that they did not get too far!By the way, I like MissUdon. South Africa is most probably only the English speaking country which issues Thai citizens visitors visa upon their arrival at the airport, no question asked. You can imagine that it is heaven sent for Thai business girls. The army of Thai prostitutes operating here is quite considerable. And guess so, all of them are from Udon Thani and vicinity.I always ask, not because I am their client ( I have seen it all ) but out of curiosity and desire to find some whore from Chiang Mai. I have no chance! Miss Udon all of them! ( Well Korat has also decent representation here ) Good Luck Stick!Keith, keep us posted! I have to say, I did have much better opinion about Stick, before I also picked up to many things I did not like and started to read between the lines. Looking forward to read more from you. Best Regards P. V., Johannesburg. |
MangoSquashing / Sorry But We Do Not Have a Winner Yet....
Someone posing as a Thai female sought to provide The Galt a picture of MangoSquashDave. And in the process they were also testing the keen Galt powers of discernment.
They secured a Yahoo account in the name of Supaporn Kaewpitoon. They get credit for choosing the correct spelling of the Thai name, the comments sounded fairly Thai as well. Here are some snippet of 4 of "her" emails:
| hello mr galt

"She" Gave Us This Picture: However, The Galt was not to be fooled. This is NOT our David at MangoSauce.com. This is David Gower a cricket player of England. Interestingly enough, David Gower's name is somewhat similar to MangoSquashDave's real name. So, did Dave himself feed us this photo in fun OR is one of his friends helping us get closer to the real David identity? Only time will tell. |
![]() This is NOT MangoSquashDave. This is cricket player named David Gower. |
How did the Galt sniff out this phony?
Part of the answer has to do with these observations:
This "Girl" made some mistakes in her email.
1) Even though she said in her first email that she liked my picture (on David's site), she ignored my requests for her phone number so I could communicate to her in Thai. If this had been a real Thai female, should would have most certainly called me or offered her phone number to communicate directly.
2) "She" said that David took her to England but did not respond when I asked to what city?
3) "She" was ignorant about the possibility that David would printing a negative story about her in response to her offering a picture of me. Anyone having been around David would know otherwise, I mean, after-all she was reading his web site.
4) "She" emailed to me at times when a normal Thais would be sleeping.
5) I wrote before that, "I'll pony up some money for that (picture)". "She" didn't question the phrase "Pony Up". That is a very obscure phrase and only a native speaking English person would naturally understand it. How would she understand otherwise what I was saying about money? "She" obviously knew what this meant and then refused the money.
6) "She" refused money.... LOL. How many Thai girls would do that? Give me a break. People, it is so easy to send girls money through the ATM here that you would not believe it (you can directly transfer money to bank account at any other bank from your branches' ATM). No girl is going to make an effort to refuse easy cash especially of course when they are laboring to provide a product.
This person obviously didn't think that I had any other credible information from any other source. I actually do know quite a bit about David already. We just won't pull the turkey from the oven until it's fully cooked.
So, if there are others out there with photos of the real David that we can add to our collection of items for the MangoSquashDave Expose', please contact me. Thanks.
News Flash:
As of yesterday June 6th, MangoSquashDave claims that he is going off-the-air to get a real job and that publishing at MangoSauce.com will be reduced or stopped entirely. How in hell did it take him so much time to squeeze out those little rinky-dink 2 and 3 paragraph articles anyhow? Hell, he stole most of those articles from other news agencies. This doesn't seem to be a valid reason to stop the site. He's a lying sack of shit (sorry, shite for you Brits).
SO -- do we yet have another new English teacher in the Kingdom now? Or will David try to find himself a place in his previous career of finance?
Calling Mrs. Stickman (the former?)
I have a reader putting up money for a Mrs. (or former Mrs.) Stickman interview. We still don't have enough evidence on the divorce quite yet to move it from the "rumor state" to the "probably true state". If anyone has true information about the purported Stickman divorce, we (The Galt Readership) would like to hear from you.
We had an extended hump this week -- Galt is on an Upward Trend?

We are still on an upward tend. The readership was strong for 2 days. 496 on Thursday and 416 on Friday. Most other days it hover at the 250 mark.
Looking over the statistic for my articles in the past 8 week, guess what article has been read the most? Believe it or not the article titled "How to be Happy in Thailand" was the most read article. Most of my readership is here in Bangkok, so what is this saying about us as a whole? Interesting huh?
One thing is solid. Guys are interested in reading about the naught night life. That is a winning topic.
The Wrap Up...
Concerning Stickman, I keep hearing him saying "Oh how I have changed...." over and over. I hear a statement of regret and disappointment.
Stickman suggests that it would be best to adopt all the positive concepts from the west and combine them with all the positive concepts of Thailand. But, he says he can't do that on a "functional level". Why the hell not?
People, is there really any good reason that you can't adopt Thai ways and keep your integrity from the west at the same time? Is there any good reason that you can't keep your voice down while working out and problem, and yet still keep your honesty and a good work ethic going?
If you're a quality person and striving to do things right - I don't see any valid reason why you can't adopt the best qualities from all your personal experiences. (isn't this what we normally do even in the west?)
I can guarantee you that if you see farangs who make 300 to 500k baht walking around here in Bangkok, those guys are masters at adopting and living by the best standards in this culture while not dropping their own personal convictions just because they are living in another culture. In fact, those guys are one step ahead of this culture and living big. That takes conviction. That take nerve and courage. It's take balls. It's takes holding fast to our convictions even when the going get tough.
So, this idea of not being able to adopt the best of both worlds is solid buffalo shit. It sounds like a poor excuse. It's not taking responsibility for your life.
If Stickman wants to make some serious cash, it can be done honestly without taking advantage of ignorant readership with misleading publishing.
Perhaps he should get the hell out of teaching and start a manufacturing company like I have done. It will probably take him 5 years to turn a healthy profit. Then after that point, he'll be happy camper again.
People, thanks for stopping by again this week. I could not put every thing that I wanted into this column. Things are coming in so fast now that I just can't keep up with it and my normal weekly duties. But, I'll keep plugging away with the things that I believe you'll find most interesting about Thailand and living here.
If you have not had a chance to come over to see Thailand -- you really must do that. There is no way to fully understand the scope of what you read on-line out coming and seeing it first hand. And I'm going to warn you -- be distrustful of what you hear. Look for second opinions. Take things at face value until you can prove out what you havde read for yourself. Don't even trust me without getting confirmation about what you read here from others. Thailand can be a slippery place and there are those who will take advantage of you in the name of "teaching you a lesson". Sorry, but that is the result of a weak legal system. It's nothing personal. If the legal system were weak in the west, you'd already know what I'm describing because it would be there in the west. But its not there and you have grown up naturally trusting the business and people around you. That is not a good natural instinct here.

For those of you already here -- please don't be a Stickman. Please don't give flimsy excuses why you can't be your best. It's a matter of choice and you can buck the culture in the appropriate ways to make your own choices. Don't cop out on honesty and integrity just because you're doing what the "Roman's do". Westerners all have a great opportunity to stand out and shine and put a great face forward. And I strongly suspect if that is done -- all our Visa issues and immigration hassles will diminish.
See you guys next week.
